providing wedding calligraphy to engaged couples in rochester ny and beyond.

Hey there! I’m Kari, the calligrapher & educator behind Kari Elizabeth Design.

I’m loving life in Rochester, NY, and if I’m not working on a project you can find me binge-watching Gilmore Girls while trying to get my cat to actually snuggle me for once (can any other cat-lovers relate?).

There are two things that I’ve always been passionate about - educating and creating. Calligraphy workshops are my way of cultivating genuine connections (and friendships!) within the local creative community while sharing the art form that I love most (because we all could use a little more authentic connection in this digital world, don’t you think?).

As a recent bride, there’s nothing I love more than hearing your love story and creating heirloom pieces that are as beautiful and unique as you are! I started my wedding calligraphy business because I want to make a humble contribution to the happiest day of your life and share in the joy of your love story!

For those of us who love #allthecreativethings, have you struggled to find that one creative “thing” that lights you up (you know, that feeling you get when the sunshine bursts through the clouds and the angels start singing)? Finding my passion for calligraphy didn’t exactly happen overnight.

Picture this - a college grad toting around 2 degrees (Music and Art History) living at home and working part-time at Starbucks. Let’s just say I was feeling a little...lost. I was dying to find a purpose behind my creativity, hopping from hobby to hobby - that is, until I found calligraphy! FINALLY I’d found something that I loved, and I knew it was so much more than just a hobby.

With what seems like a lost art form, calligraphy reminded me of a simpler time when we sought to make genuine connections with the people around us, instead of just double-tapping that latest post on Instagram. That’s what means the most to me - making true, authentic connections (and friendships) with other creative souls.

That’s why I love hosting calligraphy workshops and working with 1-on-1 clients. My workshops are fun, casual, and always accompanied by an 80’s playlist. I’m here to cheer you on and give you all the support you need in order to grow! And when you work with me for your wedding calligraphy needs, you’re gaining a friend who truly cares about you and your love story! I pick up on all the little details of your story and make magic happen with ink and paper, so you get a product that completely represents YOU.

So, let’s pour a glass of wine (maybe eat a little cake, too) and get to know each other, shall we?
